The night before All-Hallows is 31 October, and was known as All-Hallows Eve. The name gradually changed to All-Hallows Even (evening) or Hallowe’en, and finally to Halloween.

Mexican Halloween

In Mexico a festival called Los Dias de los Muertos,  Days of the Dead, take place on 1 and 2 November. It is a time for remembering and celebrating the lives of people who have died.

When was the first Halloween?

Celebrations have been held around the time of Halloween for thousands of years. The ancient Celts saw the beginning of November as the start of their New Year and the beginning of winter. They celebrated the end of the old year at about the time of year we now celebrate Halloween.

They celebrated with a spirit festival or festival of the dead, which they called ‘Samhain’. The Celts thought that Samhain was a special time when the spirits of the dead could come back to visit their living relatives.

Samhain was thought to be a frightening night when spirits, ghosts, demons and horrible beasts wandered around and caused trouble. People lit fires to keep the good spirits warm and to frighten away any evil spirits that came near. They also wore ghostly masks so that any spirits they met would be frightened away.

At Samhain families remembered their ancestors. They believed the Lord of the Dead judged all the dead souls during the festival. They offered gifts to him to help him to judge their spirits kindly.

What is Samahain?

Samhain( pronounced sow-en) was also known as Summer’s End. It was the end of the Celtic year that began with May Day, or Beltane. It was usually celebrated on the night of a full moon and after the first proper frost.

 Halloween and Dracula !

Does Dracula repesent Halloween and Does Dracula has a reflection? To answer that question we need to know the answer to this question first what is the story behind Dracula?

Some people might think that Dracula is a real person some people don’t.

Some sculares have some sdudies about the personality of dracula and they linked Stoker’s Dracula to Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia ( 1431-1476) and it has bees published a best-selling study In Search of Dracula …It was In 1972 by history professors, Raymond McNally and Florescu.

The question here is Vlad III had any thing to do with vampires and was it a counted for that or not?

Valad was a Christian Romanian prince surnamed himself Dracula Which mean the ” Son of Dracul” that refer to the fact that he was the son of Vlad Dracul, a member of the Order of the Dragon ( dracul is Romanian for dragon).

The Holy Roman Emperor creates the order of the Dragon which is a semi-military, religious society of knights. The dress which they where famous of to ware was a black cap over a red garment. As we can see in most horror films vampires wear black capes with red lining.

Vlad was a very bad reputation for the atrocities he inflicted on his enemies.

So he tortured people and had them skinned, nailed or buried alive it was kind of most horror that can be done.

It has been said that his favorite execution meted was impaling his enemies on long wooden pointed stakes. The numbers of people that he had tortured them was huge, once he impaled 20,000 Turkish prisoners in concentric circles outside his capital of Trigoviste.

To Romanians, however, Vlad is something of a national hero, who defended his country and religion and defeated the Turks in 1462. They do not call him Dracula, because of the western association with vampirism, which they regard as an affront to their history.

Vlad  was a national hero to the Romanian , who defended his country and religion and defeated the Turks in 1462, because of this view they do not call him Dracula Especially that the western associate the name of Dracula with vampirism, which they regard as affront to their history.

Vlad wa given a nickname as Vlad Tepes ( pronounced tsep-pesh) alias Vlad the Impaler,This name was given to him by the Turks.

Since Stoker new little more than the name Dracula and that he was not really familiar with the Vlad Tepes stories, hence Some scholars question the link between Stoker’s Dracula and Vlad Tepes. Professor Elizabeth Miller, a leading authority on Dracula,

The only thing that is for sure is that Stoker came across the name Dracula in a footnote in a history book written by William Wilkinson and that he linked the association with “devil”.

The question which some times been raised is Why vampires don’t have a reflection

And we can say the answer to that is the idea that vampires have no reflection is based on a superstition that a mirror reflects a person’s soul. As vampires are “un-dead” and therefore have no soul, no reflection appears.

So from here we can see that Dracula is a very weird personality that might not be a real but it is worth it to collect information and analysis the history behind that to distinguish the reality from the fiction.
